Java versus JavaScript

Many people confuse java with javascript and vice versa. If you see a java error or a javascript error, knowing the difference between the two can help you fix the issue or even ignore it altogether.

Java is a programming language developed by Sun. Java is often used to write standalone programs for your computer and applets. Usually if you see a java error this means that the java program or applet installed on your PC is at fault. To remedy a java error you may need to reinstall the program, reinstall the java runtime client, and/or fix any corrupt registry items related to the offending java program. Usually updating of the java runtime envirnoment is done automatically. If your java runtime envirnoment (JRE) has problems updating, you may need to reinstall it.

Javascript is scrippting language and does not need to be compiled. Javascript is run by your web browser. If you see a javascript error, it usually means that your internet browser cannot process the script. This can be do to bad java script programming by the website you are visiting and/or isssues with your web browser. The best way to diagnose java script problem is to try to open the same webpage on a different computer. If the error still occurs then it is most likely an error on the webpage side, which has nothing to do with your PC.
